Brooklyn Nets @ Boston Celtics 1/28/19 Postgame Notes and Observations

Despite a hot third quarter from D’Angelo Russell and co., the Nets weren’t able to come back and secure the win against the Celtics. Here’s how the loss played out.

1st Quarter:

  • The Russell fader is the first points on the board for Brooklyn, almost three minutes into the contest
  • Joe Harris nails the three off the feed from D’Lo
  • Rondae Hollis-Jefferson has been a little erratic offensively to kick things off
  • Needed that tip in from Allen off the Russell miss
  • Shabazz comes off the bench and immeidtaly hits the three ball
  • Allen cleans up Rondae’s miss this time
  • Kurucs hits the corner three
  • Carroll joins in on the perimeter action
  • Smooth finish at the rim by Napier
  • First Mitch Creek sighting of the night
  • And drives in for the smooth first bucket
  • Nets finish the quarter down by 6

2nd Quarter:

  • Napier kicks off scoring in the second with the friendly shooter’s roll
  • Another three for Shabazz gives him 11 points
  • Nice connection between Theo and Ed
  • Wonderful go-ahead pass from D’Lo to Carroll on the transition bucket
  • Nets on a 7-0 run
  • Russell gets the fortuitous bounce as he finishes with easy finger roll
  • Backs it up with a rainbow jumper for two
  • Sleek steal from D’Lo on Smart
  • Lovely little feed from Napier to Allen for the dunk down low
  • Boston on a 14-2 run to extend their lead to 12
  • Napier nails the three
  • Nets trail by 10 at the half

3rd Quarter:

  • Russell hits a jumper from the charity stripe
  • Good engagement from Rondae to follow up his own miss
  • Hollis-Jefferson finishes the pick and roll play off the feed from D’Lo
  • Nice energy from Kurucs on both sides of the floor
  • Smooth touch from Russell on the stepback
  • RHJ gets another basket thanks to his energy
  • D’Lo goes bang from deep
  • Nets on an 11-2 run to cut the deficit to 3
  • D’Lo nails two threes in a row
  • Lovely feed from Russell on the Harris cut
  • Mitch runs the lane with purpose for the basket
  • Napier forces the issue and Davis cleans up the miss
  • 4-point play opportunity for Carroll
  • This time Davis cleans up Carroll’s miss
  • Brooklyn down by 1 entering the final period

4th Quarter:

  • Nice cut from Russell leads to the jumper from the charity stripe
  • Boston on an 8-0 run mid way through the fourth
  • 6 turnovers this quarter, not even half way through the period
  • Rondae glides through the lane for the layup
  • Good penetration from DeMarre as he feeds RHJ for the easy lay in
  • Russell surprisingly, is still on the bench
  • Deficit balloons to 15
  • Boston close it out for a 112-104 win.
