In true NBA Celebrity game fashion, the play on the court showed us just how good NBA players are.
First Half:
Team Clippers jumped out to a surprisingly quick lead, with rapper Quavo, of Migos, scoring on a fast break and-one to start the festivities.
After some expected turnovers and poor play, the real hoopers of the event like Paul Pierce, Nate Robinson, and Tracy McGrady got things rolling, with Robinson playing with NBA playoffs level aggression, almost like he was trying out for an NBA team.
Arcade Fire drummer, Win Butler, and actor, Jerry Ferrera, then showed off their old man game, posting up opposing players and each draining some threes before the half.
“Black-ish” stars Anthony Anderson and Miles Brown both traded buckets for a short while before each went cold.
When he entered the game, former NBA player, Jason Williams, returned to his old ways, throwing out some awesome (albeit unfruitful) passes and openly rebelling against Father Time.
NBA 2KTV host, Rachel DeMita, also had a quiet 10 points in the first half before being taken out.
Team Clippers led through most of the half, with Quavo campaigning for MVP with nifty passing and flashy drives to the basket. The score at the break was Team Clippers 37, Team Lakers 30.
Second Half:
Quavo again kicked off action to start to the third quarter, scoring on another fast break layup for team Clippers, then dishing out some dimes in transition and the half court while showing a surprisingly good feel for the game.
Despite some bricks and turnovers, Quavo again displayed his skill level while relentlessly attacking the rack through the third quarter to grow on the lead for Team Clippers.
Nate Robinson then promptly returned fire scoring five straight for Team Lakers on a tough 3 and two free throws.
Quavo continued his reign of terror on Team Lakers, especially in one sequence in the fourth quarter when he scored on one end and tried to block Rachel Demita on the other.
Demita then caught fire, scoring seven straight before her run was ended again by Quavo who came back with 5 of his own.
In what turned out to be an interesting end to the game, each side leveled up their quality of play and with team Clippers leading 63-68 with 3 minutes left in the fourth quarter, both sides turned up the intensity.
Although the boxer, Terrence Crawford, knocked in critical free throws to reduce the gap, it didn’t matter because Quavo hit a game-sealing layup of his own on the other end.
Overall, this was a surprisingly entertaining game and there’s a distinct possibility that more defense was played in the final two minutes of the Celebrity Game than there will be in the entire All-Star Game Sunday.
