A Jeremy Lin Update

The News…

Jeremy Lin and Brooklyn Nets fans finally got some information about Jeremy Lin and his hamstring injury. Unfortunately, it was not news anyone wanted to hear. After rumors emerged as to Lin possibly returning tonight against the Spurs, Sean Marks came out and updated the world.

Marks informed the media that Lin re-aggravated his hamstring and will be out an additional 3-5 weeks. The All-Star game is in about three weeks, so let us all be hopeful he can come back after the All-Star break.

In the meantime…

Either way, this is not good news for the Nets. Brooklyn is pretty thin at point guard. Spencer Dinwiddie has not been producing, Isaiah Whitehead has been hurt, and Yogi Ferrell is in the D-League.

Dinwiddie can get better and probably will, but he is still learning how to be a starter in this league. Whitehead is not a true point guard so even when he is healthy there is still a slight disadvantage. Yogi is arguably the team’s best true point guard and it does not seem likely that Brooklyn will call him up to the pros anytime soon.

This leaves players like Sean Kilpatrick having to run the point at times. On that note, Coach Kenny Atkinson says he does not need a point guard and that anybody can take the ball down the floor. Nets fans may have noticed that Trevor Booker really likes to take the ball down the court and make things happen.

Brooklyn only has nine wins this season and a large reason why the wins are so few and far between is largely because of the lack of production at the point guard position. Brooklyn does not have a player to really command the floor and find the open man and make that extra pass.

The waiting game

All Nets and Lin fans should be certain to send your wished and prayers to Lin hoping he can fully recover sooner than later. This young team needs someone like Lin running the point. It will help all of their developments and their confidence via Lin finding them open for easy baskets.

For now, try to enjoy watching Brooklyn without Lin some more and pray they can upset a few teams along the way. This team fights and can win games, but they are missing a key component; their point guard.
